“Hey, Babe…Let’s Talk”: Navigating Your Anxiety Diagnosis 💭💬💕

Hey Babes! I hope you guys are having a productive week. I am back to work, so I am working on balancing work and blog life. Let’s jump right in!

“You have anxiety it does not have you.”

This is the most important thing that I need you to understand. You are not your diagnosis. We often get this type of information, and it seems like something that you have to hide or something to be ashamed of, and it’s not. ADAA (Anxiety & Depression Association of America) says, “Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults (19.1% of the population) age 18 and older every year.” (adaa.org) This statistic lets you know that you are NOT alone.

When I received my diagnosis, I was so relieved. I spent years wondering why I had specific responses to different things and if there was something “wrong” with me. I am happy to report that there is NOTHING wrong with me like there is NOTHING wrong with you.

Speaking with your primary care physician (PCP) is the first step. It is essential when you go to the doctor, to be honest about what’s going on with you and your body. There are many different types of anxiety, and it would benefit you to be open so that you can receive all the help that you need.

“So you think you need meds? Cool!”

The next step is to discuss how to treat your anxiety. Some people require medication, while others do not. Every case is different yet valid.

“Therapy? Heck Yes!”

You might just need someone to talk to! That is fine too. Psychology Today provides an excellent resource for linking you to a therapist or counselor of your choosing. There are even filters only to see therapists that accept your insurance. How cool is that?

Finding out you have anxiety can be quite a bit to process, but I am here to tell you that you are not alone, Babe! I am here with you every step of the way. What I learn, I will share with you. I promise we’ve got this. Stay tuned for the next post!

Take Care,

ToriB 💕🌻
