The Great Divide ➗

Hey guys! I hope all is well. I’ve had a whirlwind these past weeks, but I am still holding on. My daily affirmations gave me a quote that sparked a thought, and from there, I would like to talk about The Great Divide.

“I refuse to stay in the same place emotionally or physically for my entire life.” —“I Am” Daily Affirmations App

There’s the past, present, and the future. When journeying through life, we pick up various things. Some situations we let go of, others change everything about us. In my Bible study group, we’ve been working on “Controlling Our Emotions,” Through this plan, we’ve discussed how God has given us emotions and feelings but how he expects us to come to him when we need help navigating those problematic spaces.

“…and we tear down every proud idea that raises itself against the knowledge of God. We also capture every thought and make it give up and obey Christ.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10‬:‭5‬ ‭ERV‬‬

This scripture was tough for me. I was struggling with releasing control around a particular situation. Although this message came right on time, it was difficult for me to separate my desires from the message that God was giving me. When we make it out of a pickle, we remember the outcome—the winning or the losing. Then we keep on trucking. You learn, grow, carry, and—? The word should be “release,” but how easy is that?

Here’s where the divide comes in. Do we forget the lessons that we learn? Do we ignore red flags and reminders of past mistakes we’ve worked so hard to overcome? I want you to know that grace and mercy are granted to us daily. God never stops forgiving us and wanting to help us get it right. But how hard is it for us to give ourselves and others grace? I’ll go first—it’s HARD! When I notice a familiar pattern that does not make me feel warm and fuzzy, I have that moment of fear that my past is coming to repeat itself. This is where submission to God becomes crucial. He quickly reminds me, “I forgave you for that. I took that from you. Please don’t pick that back up.” Those sweet, soft reminders bring me so much peace, and I must remind myself that I am the only one not operating in complete forgiveness. God has granted me the opportunity to move forward, and I have to take it.

There does not have to be a great divide or a considerable decision that I have to make right now; I can give these past and present situations to God so they won’t affect my future.

It’s so easy to fall into the thought loop of “What if I can’t do this because of my past?” Or “My future is going to be like my past.” Thoughts like this cause us to neglect to live in the present, which is such a beautiful place to be. I want you to say “God” to the great divide in your life and give the present all the grace, mercy, and love it deserves.

Take Care,
